Don’t forget to turn on the sound board
Launch Wirecast (do NOT update or download new version if it asks you)
Click “Create Empty Document”
Build your camera setup and add your files
Click the Plus sign by the top layer and select Audio Capture>System Device>Microphone (Scarlett 2i2 USB) and add it to the top layer
Click the plus sign in the second layer and select Media Files>Browse Disk and choose the media files for the live stream (These are typically found on the PEEP site at wcpapeeps.com)
Drag your media files over each other to make a slideshow. You can drag multiple media files into the slideshow and right click>edit playlist to change the transitions and files used in the playlist
Click the plus sign in the third layer and select Network>NDI Source and add all three cameras. You can only select one camera at a time.
Cofrin cameras are 8,9,10
FHH cameras are 1,2,3
Setting up first shots for each camera
On the menu on the left of the wirecast screen, select the second menu tab called “Shot Layer Properties” (It should have an icon with three faders). Set the size to 1920 x 1080 as shown below. Do this for all of the cameras you put in.
Select the third menu tab (it should have a speaker icon). Mute the camera mics and do this for all of the cameras being added.
Using the PTZOptics controller on the desk if set up*, select the first camera and get it into the position you need.
Using the PTZ Controller window in Wirecast, select the camera. Save the preset for that camera.
Repeat the following steps for your other cameras until every camera has a preset 1.
Rename each shot accordingly by right-clicking the shot in the main shot list (for example: “C2P1 Podium Close” for a close up of a podium using Camera 2 Preset 1)
Under the shot layer properties window for each shot, go to the PTZ dropdown and assign preset 1 to each shot.
Adding more angles
To add more angles and presets, first duplicate the Camera shots that are already created and rename them (right click the shot in the main shot list>duplicate shot)
Using the controller, set up each shot and save to the corresponding preset (2,3,4,...). Then, in the shot layer properties window for each shot,
choose the PTZ dropdown and assign each shot the corresponding preset.
*If the controller isn’t available, Wirecast has a built-in controller window that can be used instead. On the top navigation bar, choose Window>PTZ Controller. This can be used just like the normal controller.
For Youtube with a stream key
In the top navigation bar, choose Output>Output Settings and select “RTMP Server” from the drop down menu. Select “OK”
In the output settings box, name your event something recognizable (Ex: 6.30 Concert 10.19.21).
Change the encoding to default: 1080p30 (4Mbps) x264 H.264 (If it asks you to keep canvas size or match preset size, keep canvas size)
On the PEEP site, there’s a document containing the stream URL and key for every event that semester.
Paste the stream URL in the box labeled Address
Paste the stream key in the box labeled Stream
For a recording or another event
In the top navigation bar, choose Output>Output Settings, and check the box on the left to add an additional source (skip if not using Youtube)
In the Output Settings window, name your event something recognizable (Ex: 6.30 Concert 10.19.21)
Still in the Output Settings window, in the Event drop-down menu select the created event.)
On the top of the Wirecast window, there should be three icons: Stream, Record, and ISO. Select whichever options necessary (Stream for Youtube and Record for a disc recording, for example). This will start the stream on Youtube immediately, so only click this at the scheduled time.
Confirm that the relevant icons are green.
For events set up with an auto start, the stream will start as soon as data is sent to Youtube and stop when the stream is no longer sent.
Layers/Shots highlighted red during the show will be live and layers/shots highlighted green will be in the preview.
Click “Clear Layer” to hide any graphic layers and show the camera layer.
Make sure that the microphone is still highlighted.
Select the camera shot wanted, and click the right arrow icon in the center to make it live (The boxes to the left of the arrow select the transition between shots)
Select different shots and continue the process throughout the stream.
Try to avoid selecting multiple shots from the same camera if not already planned because the camera will change shots manually instead of a smooth fade.
On the red Focusrite unit, there are two knobs (Left and Right). These both control the volume of the input of audio for Wirecast. Make sure they don’t turn red, a little yellow is ok, and turn them down if they are too high.
In Wirecast, click the green Stream, Record, or ISO icons so they turn gray and stop streaming/recording.
